Hmm, may have to try again when they don't have the 'rights restricted' stuff on, as it won't connect at all right now.

EDIT - Fstream didn't work, but WunderRadio does! I can get rid of my 8525 now!
Not sure whay fstream wouldn't work -- were you listening over wifi or 3G? It's a bit buggy, but I've had great success streaming all kinds of feeds, and the program is free.

WundeRadio sounds intriguing but costs $5.99. Before I take the plunge, can someone please:

1) Confirm that WunderRadio plays WMA streams

2) Compare the functionality of WunderRadio with Tuner

Thanks!

Brand new Iphone user here and I appreciate all the great info here on this topic but have a question. I am a career fireman and would like to be abel to lisen to my department when I am not at work and there is a large scale incident. There is a website www.scanct.com that streams the fire scanners online but with either windows media player or real player. Is there any program or plugin that will allow me to listen to these types of feeds or to enter a url to listen to streaming. Seems like Wunderradio is a favorite here but before I purchase it I was wondering if you can goto url's. Thanks for the help.

I have [app=Tuner+Internet+Radio]Tuner[/app] and plugged in the streams ip I got off that site for NYPD SOD/ESU (198.173.254.122:8030). It worked perfectly but I would suspect that it would drain your battery pretty fast.

Took the plunge and purchased wunderradio. It's impressive -- much better than AOL Radio. But I had difficulty playing custom feeds from encrypted servers, which makes it a nonstarter for me. I'm also concerned the location services will drain the battery pretty fast.

Basically, I would recommend wunderradio for anyone new to streaming audio who wants to be able to search for preset streams in the directory. But for anyone experienced in entering their own streams manually, Fstream and Tuner are probably better.

Your best bet is probably Wunderradio, which already has local police and fire scanners as presets, as I recall. You can enter urls into Wunderradio manually, but I've had little success getting them to work. Tuner and fstream are better for that, but you can't just enter the link on the website.

You have to find out the address of the feed itself, which can sometimes be tricky. For that, I usually google "streamaudio" and the name of the station. But I'm not sure how that would work for scanner feeds.

I was surprised to find this wasn't the case, especially over wifi. With tuner and fstream, I can stream for 4-5 hours over wifi without getting a battery warning.

How did you get the streams ip from that site? All I have been able to find is the location url.

When I click the Windows Media link in Safari it opens Quicktime player (probably because I have Flip4Mac installed). At the top of the Quicktime player it says the IP. If you are looking for a specific IP, I would be happy to go to the site and pull the IP for you.

Once I get it how/where do I enter it in tuner?

In Tuner: click search, then open in the top left. Title the stream and type the IP in the URL space (it should look like this: http://198.173.254.122:8030). Click done and it should start playing. You would probably want to add it to your bookmarks by clicking the book in the top right corner.

Hope that helps!

Just out of curiosity, does your version of Tuner stop playing every 30 minutes when phone isn't plugged in?

Not that I have noticed, but to be honest, I don't think I have listened continuously for 30 minutes yet. Maybe someone else that uses it more will chime in here.

That would be awesome. Here are the links to the audio. I really appreciate your help.

Thanks again.

This wouldnt work because they dont do the state of CT on their system, I already checked, but thank you for the tip in case they do in the future.

Stamford Fire: 198.173.254.122:8000

Fairfiled County Fire: 198.173.254.122:8006

I checked them on my iPhone and they are working. You should be good to go.

Winderradio is able to listen to "scanner" staions as well.

I can't say for sure how good it is, since I have no need for this, and no way to test it, but the settings are there.

**Edit** Actually, I just read the rest of the thread, and I see that you actually posted the URLs. There is a place to enter them into WunderRadio, but it just never gets passed the loading screen.

I tried to simply enter the IP, but that failed. Maybe someone else can get this to work with WunderRadio, but with the URLs that you have listed, I am unable to.

However, if you click "Help," a nice pre-filled form pops up with the URL in it, to submit it to the developer. He says that he will try to make anyone work if you submit it to him.

If it helps for you to know this, it looks like they have a scanner database by "ScanAmerica.us."

Maybe you can check with them to make your feed work.

Found this site that will give you a websites IP address but it doesnt work for the streams. At least if you get the IP you can then just play with the port number at the end til you get the stream you want.

http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php

I would still like to find a program that will get the IP of the stream if anyone knows of one for windows.

Also Mat4020 I installed tuner and put in the addresses and bookmarked them. They work great. Exactly what I needed!

Ok so I thought I could use the link above to find the IP address of a site and then play with the port numbers to figure out the full address of the feeds but it is not working as planned. Does anyone know a program that will show the IP address including port number, of a feed, as Mat mentioned above?

He states he uses safari and when he opens a feed it uses quicktime to play the feed because he has flip4mac installed. Is there anyway that I can do this on a PC running XP??

Thanks in advance for any help.

Alright, this should help you windows users.

1. You need to play the stream in realplayer.
2. You should see a realplayer box on the site above the 'feed menu'
3. Right click on that player and click 'Play in RealPlayer'
4. Now, it opens up realplayer externally.
5. On the realplayer window, click where it says ScanCT.com F_. This should bring up the clip info. The filename is the IP address. (you can also do this by clicking ctrl-I)

Hope this work for everyone.

Matt

Thanks Mat! Any way to play Adobe Flash feeds on the iphone?

ie. http://www.thebravest.com/manhattan/manhattan.htm

Found an easy way to get the feeds from the CT website working on fstream. Just played them on my computer by clicking on the windows feed, which opened up a plug-in WM player. I then right-clicked on the plug-in player and selected "properties." The IP address is in the box that pops up.

I've tried everything I know

I didn't want to be a bother to you guys but I have tried everything and can't figure this out. I use WunderRadio (like it a lot) but the main station that I bought that app for got removed when Clear Channel decided to get their panties in a bind. I have looked in their own app (Iluvradio crap) and it isn't available there. I can get most other channels that I like in Wunder or Iluv still but this one station evades me and I am begging for help!

I have tried everything suggested in this thread and either cant figure it out or it isn't working. I have FStream on my iphone and nothing I have typed in there has worked. I've tried the URL Snooper and have had no luck, I've tried figuring out how to get the ip but have no luck there either (don't know how), I've tried several different streaming url's (all http, can't find any mms except for the ones that didn't work from Snooper) and nothing.

The website that streams the radio station is WFLAFM.com. There is a "Listen Live" button on the main page that streams it in an embedded WM player. The station itself is 100.7 FM WFLA Tallahassee (Wunder identifies the city as Midway if that matters).

Can anyone get this to work in FStream or any other iPhone app? I would be eternally grateful!!!!!!

Thanks!

Fanboys are so retarded

why would apple cave to a non standard that could lossen it's grip in the browser market. No flash no wma and I'm fine with that.

It's not like that is the only format they can use

sheesh..
