okay, this has been driving me nuts for AGES! I have windows media player simply because a lot of videos on the web support it. BUT IT DOESN.T WORK! If I download a file, I have to open up internet explorer who tells me 'error creating unique tmp file' but then opens up the application by itself and the video plays [if i try simply to open the file with the app, i get the same message, but no video]...but streaming video won.t work at all! Same message, but since I can.t do my little sneak around-drag-into-IE-thing it won.t ever load. And I still can.t get realplayer to work [except in classic] so I really don.t have anyway to watch the two [unfortunantly] most popular formats of streaming content. Anyone know how to fix these problems? I would greatly appreciate it!

There's not enough information in your post. What versions of the software have you downloaded? Are you trying to play files with the stand-alone player or inside of web pages? Does the program not launch, or give an error when you try to play back content? What happens when you try to use the player? What version of Mac OS X are you using?

Personally, I suffer and do without. WMP and Real Player are 2 of the worst pieces of software in existence. I've decided that if people's content isn't important enough for them to put into a better format that I don't need to see it. Likewise, if somebody has an allegiance to Microsoft or Real then I don't want to support them. I write letters when I think it might do any good. It's hard sometimes, but that's how I deal with it.

Not sure if you are having the same problem I was, but in my case there are different versions of Windows Media Player for OS X and Classic. The streaming links in IE launch the version of WMPlayer for the wrong environment and give the "error creating tmp". (I checked the program information to discover the wrong version was launching. Other problems also happen sometimes when double clicking a WM file on the hard drive.) However, if I start the correct version of the WMPlayer for the current startup environment and have it open before clicking any streaming video links, the streams seem to play okay. There is probably a way to make sure the correct version launches from the browser, but I don't know how to do that so I use this bumbling workaround for now.

Having the same problem, any suggestions???

Hey,
I am a frequent user of cbc radio online streaming and i listen to NHL games on a streamlined radio as well - both only use WMP (which is unfortunate, but I really don't want to miss out on this content) I'm running 10.4.2 on my G3 ibook and every time i try to run one of the streamed radio broadcasts i get the "error creating unique tmp file" message. I've tried completely erasing and then re-downloading windows media player and nothing has changed. I've also tried it in both Safari and Internet Explorer... Im wondering if anyone knows why, or has any suggestions?

Hi. Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I wonder if you found the solution at the same website I did (http://mans.thejonassons.com/2005/howto.php?id=3) ...

The gist of the solution is that you may be using special UTF-8 characters in your hard drive name, and you need to remove them. Since you mentioned the CBC, my guess is that you have a french hard drive name (as my friend did - her drive's name has been changed to no longer include an 'accent grave'). It's a stupid Windows Media Player for Mac bug that Microsoft has been lazily sitting on for at least a year.
I hope this fixes your problem ...
Okay! Good luck!
