I'm new to the Mac (my mini is about a month old) and I have a question about Windows sharing.

In Tiger, sharing with Windows computers was easy to configure. All I did was turn on Windows sharing. It worked both ways -- to and from the Mac.

But in Leopard, all my sharing was turned off after I upgraded. I enabled File Sharing but my Windows computers could not find my Mac.

Eventually I checked the "Share files and folders using SMB" option under File Sharing and that did the trick.

Is this what I should be doing?

I'm not sure why the upgrade to Leopard changed my existing settings.

My sharing settings were reset too. IIRC, in tiger you weren't able to specify what to share, instead you ended up sharing your entire home directory, whereas now you have much more control.

They also updated Samba and turned on UNIX extensions. This meant I had a little trouble trying to mount shares in Linux, but I was able to fix things in the end.
