for the past 12 years or so i've done my taxes with Turbo Tax on my windows laptop, but now have the MacBook Air, and when it comes time next year (2022) to do my 2021 taxes, if i download Turbo Tax for Mac, will it be able to upload and use my 2020 Turbo Tax for windows copy to import that data in to the 2021 Mac Turbo Tax program. will it do it without Rosetta? the 2021 tax form was saved in both the Turbo Tax extension(tt) and as a pdf file.

According to what I've seen on the Turbotax site a Mac version of TT will read a windows TT file from last year and import the info.

What the import situation will be next year is impossible to say. Also, this year's Turbotax for macOS seems to require Rosetta to run but I would expect next year's release to be compatible with Apple Silicon M1 and beyond.

As a side note…next year, TT for macOS will require the Catalina or newer version of macOS for the 2021 tax year. Not an issue for M1 Macs.

Brian, ok, thanks, sounds promising, and will see what next year brings.

Re: TT 2021 requiring OS Catalina or later.

I checked Turbo Tax web site and asked Intuit about this via Chat. Their answer was that that decision was not official until it is announced on their web site. So, even thou it's not official, I suspect it will happen which could effect a lot of people who like my daughter is still running on pre Catalina OS.

I'm on Mojave and the message about next year appeared when I first started this year's app last week.

Out of curiosity, why don't you use the TurboTax website instead of the application? Then you'll be platform agnostic and not have these worries.

mikethebigo, i do another person's taxes besides my own, doing the taxes online is more expensive than downloading the cd. and "No! I am not worried!" wherever that came from.
