    Hey guys,

I have long been wanting to make the switch and currently own a Inspiron 6000 which I foolishly upgraded to Windows Vista. I am so ready to purchase a Macbook Pro but have heard whispers of huge upgrades coming in January and I am not that impressed by the so-called "quiet" upgrades that were currently released. What do you guys suggest. Should I patiently wait for Jobs to say, "Today, we are doing something big..." or should I buy one now and gleefully run down the stairs Christmas morning.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

    -Josh

    My 1p (2c / 0.014 Euro / 0.067 Malaysian Ringgits)...

I was in a very similar situation two weeks ago, but decided that I'd buy immediately. Despite having missed out on the newly updated models (working on that, though) I am overjoyed with my Mac experience so far, and am in no way disappointed with anything on the MacBook. It's lovely.

So everyone is saying purchase? No one feeling a major chase redesign, some sort of advanced upgrade, or even a major performance boost from penryn in January?

By the time Penryn is here there will be something new on the horizon. The MBP is a damn fast machine by any standard.

Conclusion: upgrade your computer every 3 years to maintain latest technology. Don't get hung up on future technology.

I vote for gleefully running down the stairs at Christmas. Not sure how old you are, but I have a funny mental image of your christmas morning.

There will *always* be new technology "just" around the corner.

Rumours are just that, rumours. And guesses. There isn't any announced schedule of product releases.

There could be a new model in January - but that's already 2-3 months away. It could be released in Feb or March. Or later. Or earlier. No one knows.

If the machine for sale does what you want and if you can afford it, I'd suggest buying it and enjoying it. If the MBP in its current guise isn't quite what you're wanting, and you're not really that bothered about having it to use particularly soon, then by all means wait until the next product release.
