I would love to put an OS X skin/theme onto winblows2k... That might make it more tolerable for the times when I must use the peecee *shudder*.

Mac's can do everything that peecee's do, only better, easier, and nicer :D.

Too bad Apple stopped theme makers from doing that by threatening copyright infringement...

Hmmmm.... i guess that i had better not put cloud backgrounds or green anywhere on my mac for fear it might become some perverted hermaphrodite of a computer and start behaving like a catholic priest in private while drinking and driving and never taking out the garbage or lifting a finger around the house....

JESUS CHRIST!!! i think that these themes are great. i also think that XP's graphic design is awesome. It's the best thing that they've come up with so far, and despite the fact that Microsoft has an inferior OS and is now trying to undermine public faith in UNIX, Bill Gates didn't design the look for XP... and i'm not 100%, but probably a team of designers from an independant firm did and the work that they did is solid. They do their job well (probably with Macs) and you guys won't even consider it because it reminds you of something you probably hardly have to deal with???? Come on!

It's one thing to be an enthusiast... but don't become close-minded snobs.... please.

(not necessarily directed to everyone on this thread....)

OK...ok...take it easy Francis.
One of the reasons that we use MAC's is for it's nice interface and graphics. This is just me but when I look at XP it reminds me of some sort of kids game. I feel like there should be toy piano music playing and goofy purple dinosaurs talking to me..."Press the start button Jimmy...uh-huck".
True it is better than anything that MS has done in the past but it's not nearly as good as OSX's gui.
I wasn't putting down the creator of that theme, they did a good job.

Really? I can't imagine there's not someone out there with a Mac Theme, if it was given away free or someone just playing around. If you want one, you should do a little web search just to be sure.

Congrats on 500 Rower_CPU - nice avatar.

re: quanta

quanta i have avery good reason for dispising windows. First I had a Debate case to print out. So I go try to print is hmm wheres all my files. (This was at school on a network) K I have time lets try another same. This happened 6 times 3 on compaqs twice on dells an on a hp. all in different labs. yet others could access theres files. hmm ok im barely didnt fail the course cuz or that. Second bill gates is the devil thus so is microsoft. period close the book he is no one can disagree w/ me on that. Third the Unix thing that just says something about microsoft. But Microsoft is screwing them selves over cuz everone that i know hates xp in some way. You know theres only two things I dont like about OSX first that Apple doesnt make two button mouses (more of an apple problem). And that my computer can barely run it but my computers 4 yrs old so what do u expect. As for the theme, sick but cool im going to use it on my dad and see if is confused.

I agree with quanta. I have had enough bad experiences with Windows in the past to scar me for life, but I do like the graphic design of the new WinXP GUI. I find the new look very colorful and appealing. (I do not like how the old metal widgets which have not been completely phased out yet clash with the new look, though. )

If not for OS X, would MS have even bothered revamping Windows' look? Probably not. Would I ever want to use WinXP? No. Is OS X's display layer far superior, performance aside, to XP's? Yes. Do I like the transparency and shadows and would I miss them in Windows? Yes. But I don't see how having lots of blue and green in the GUI is such a horrible and atrocious sin. I would actually prefer solid primary colors to the hard-on-the-eyes and excessively bright pinstriped Aqua look. I mean, pinstripes? Hello?

Any tosser who feels inclined to flame me is perfectly welcome, as if I could really care less, but let me ask you a question first: If OS X had come out with XP's strong-primary-colors look first, and then XP had come out later with OS X's pinstripes-and-candy look, which one would you be making fun of then?

"Ha ha ha. Pinstripes and translucent candy! M$ sux0rs!! M$ tried once again to rip off our great GUI, and YET AGAIN they failed!! " (Be sure to substitute "M$" for "MS" wherever you can, as it is highly clever and original.)

Nobody here is going to argue that Windows does not suck, but the topic here is the look of OS X vs. the look of XP. What are you saying that has anything to do with what quanta said? Nothing.

I know

yeah sometimes i get way off subject and just rant but i beleive quanta did say something about how we hate m$ so much and how they arent that bad correct me if i miss read it. Oh yeah and when I first saw XP on a computer I thought hey M$ actually made somethin not or boring and maybe half decent. But then I used it and I noticed it had alot of the nit-picky flaws like all others windows os's had. eg: windows-you have to go to a menu bar to "rename something, MacOs's u hit enter or return while hi-liting items; In Windows hidden items are much more obvious eg: Half the C Drive items are hidden and u have to disable stuff to see em. MacOS;s: a few very important files (Desktop DF like files) and the endless "icon" files are hidden to allow saftey and organization. The main thing I dislike about windows is the taskbar and start bar which have alot less ease of use compared to the dock. Unfortunatly OS9 or pervious users have to use apps. like A-Dock (My Fav.) or Dragthing which is ugly in my perspective.

windows is a pretty **** piece of software, and mac os 9 may crash but everything is in the right place, but os x? ive not got my head round that 1 yet, its still too alien to be concidered "macish", maybe that platinum theme could help me out...

I will agree that XP's GUI was done in response to OS X's, but to me the two look nothing similar. OS X's is all white and pinstriped, and XP's is much more colorful, has no pinstripes, and has completely different widgets. Only if you consider a "cheap knockoff" to be any GUI element which is rendered in a color other than silver or white or black will I agree that Luna is a cheap knockoff of Aqua. On the contrary, Luna seems quite meticulously designed and well-done.

You did mis-read it. Correct yourself.

Again, how is this relevant? Is this the Why Windows Sucks thread? ... No, it seems to me that it's the Windows XP Theme for Mac OS X thread.

Ok, now this is weird. I think i'll d/l it, take it to school, and show it to my friends. They'd laugh. They know that I'm a mac person, and they all use pee-cee's. I just hope that it doesn't screw up my system...

I love this theme!

I'm sick of Aqua. It looks really stupid and always seems to run too slowly. I'm using the Windows XP theme now and I really like it. It seems to match OS X really well (not like the BeOS theme I tried, which clashed with the Aqua icons and buttons). Plus, it runs noticeably faster than Aqua. This is a good choice for a theme for OS X until Apple brings back the NeXT appearance (which probably won't happen). This is great for Mac evangelism: show your friends WinXP's GUI running better on your 500 MHz iMac than it does on their 2 GHz Pentium 4! And it doesn't crash!

WARNING: Do not read the below rant if you have a soft spot for Barney the Dinosaur, C|Net's anchordesk or are easily offended...

[RANT]

OMG, how can you look at an XP desktop without thinking of Seasame St. + Barney the friggin' dinasour. No offense to anyone who likes XP but GROW UP!!! It looks like something Fisher Price has designed!!! but... kudos to the theme maker -- they've done a good job... i can now show my peecee "friends" who say "oh, XP isn't too ugly..." the comparison between using an XP interface and an OS X...

If only the m$ whores... i mean "reporters" over at cnet's anchordesk could see this...

I agree; translucent drops of throbbing fruit candy on a pinstripe background are so much more mature and sophisticated. The colors "blue" and "green" are so puerile.

NeXTStep or LiteStep?

You people seem to have confused LiteStep (the Windows replacement shell) with NeXTStep (the excellent operating system forming the basis of OS X). NeXTStep was made by NeXT, Steve Jobs' company, when he left Apple. It was OS X more than 10 years before OS X: a UNIX with a GUI. Most everything in OS X, from the Dock to finder column view, came from NeXTStep. LiteStep is based on the NeXTStep GUI, but is not NeXTStep.

Is clarification needed?

quanta would like to clarify the following points:

1. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it's probably a duck.

2. An XP theme on OSX will not make your computer act like a duck.

3. Not all catholic priest behave like ducks. Just the ones on CNN (which are the vast minority).

4. Greed is the aspect of Gates/M$ which i have the largest problem with.

5. And finally... long live the Mac and its OS!
