Hahaha, well isn't this a coincidence ... look what we picked up while were were out this afternoon:

Well, what can I say?

Anyway, I lift my glass and offer you a virtual toast; and may you enjoy it. A lovely, rich and luscious beer, with excellent depth.

Also scored some "Not Your Father's Root Beer". It's *delicious*, more or less a nice, rich root beer but with a nice little 5.9% ABV kick.

We were picking up food for the rest of the family, and while we waited, we had a couple of delicious beers (I'll post when I remember the names), but the bartender asked if we had tried this root beer, and actually cracked open a bottle and poured it three ways! 😀 So when we left, we stopped at the package store right down the street, and picked some up. It's currently in rapid chill mode in ice, in the freezer 🙂

Ooh, a root beer with a kick, eh? How sweet is it? I would love the opportunity to taste a dry alcoholic root beer, I've always been a fan of root beers but their sugar content has always been a huge turn off.

Ooh, a root beer with a kick, eh? How sweet is it? I would love the opportunity to taste a dry alcoholic root beer, I've always been a fan of root beers but their sugar content has always been a huge turn off.

It's pretty sweet, but less sweet that more sweeter root beers like A&W (it's more like a Barqs, if you've tried either).

Holy smokes, the package version (6-pack of 12oz bottles) is 5.9%, but the 22oz bottles are 10% and they have a "Not Your Grandfathers..." product that is 19.5%! Drinker BEWARE 😀

Yeah, it's definitely sweet to the point where one, +maybe+ two would be about all you want. I switched over to the Curmudgeon 😀

It tastes exactly like a standard root beer. So it's pretty sweet. You could literally give it to a kid and not have any idea.

There's a barrel aged version clocking in at 25%. I think it was a one off. Straight heat.

Nope but I am now. Of course I can find the original beers easily enough, and enjoy them regularly but it's good to know I can try it the next time I visit the US. 😀

You will be more than usually happy to learn that I managed to have ordered the Houblon Chouffe, (and of course, the Rochefort Trappist 8 and my personal favourite, the Rochefort Trappist 10, in addition to the more usual Rochefort Trappist 6), the Founder's Centennial IPA, and the St Bernardus Pater 6, (in addition to my favourite, St Bernardus Abt 12). A crate, containing a nice selection of the above, has just been delivered to my house this very morning…..

So, my deep, nay profound, and grateful thanks to you.

Well, this week saw the delivery of some rather splendid Belgian beer glasses (the classical beer chalice style).

Now, in fairness, I already have some rather lovely beer glasses - I have several from Innis & Gunn, which are lovely for lagers, and ales, but not quite what I was looking for to serve with Trappist ales.

Four of the glasses (one may have visitors, and there are few things more annoying, or less hospitable, than your host sipping from a sublime glass while you are required to make do with some stolen pub ware) are St Bernardus beer chalices, while the others include one from Chimay, one from Carolus, and one from Delirium Tremens (which our Filipina carer fell in love with, so I gave it to her).

I will say that drinking a beer from the correct glass immeasurably enhances one's feeling of enjoyment, and of being at one with life.

They are agreeably solid, heavy, and very well balanced, and I am hugely enjoying sipping either the St Bernardus, or Rochefort Trappists with them.

I mainly use 4oz tasting snifters when with friends. Glassware is starting to get just as big as the beer here. I'll have to send some pictures of some of mine.

I read somewhere that some breweries in Europe actually make the glass before they Brew the beer the first time.

Belgium blew my mind, the first time I visited the place, years ago.

I couldn't get over the fact that each beer had its own very specific glass, with different shapes and sizes, and that serving the beer was a skill. Moreover, the pubs were fantastic in that elegant coasters, (and delicious bar-snacks) and excellent coffee were also frequently available in the pubs.

That is about the price range of the glassware that I received; I'm tempted to add to them, and thank you for posting this most useful link. I'll be browsing later tonight…….

Actually, what costs more is the postage. The glasses themselves are the least of the problems.

When my set arrived last Monday, they had been packaged in an enormous parcel, and were cosseted and protected with an enormous amount of padding. While it did take a while to unpack, and unwrap (bubble wrap, as well as everything else was used), the glassware did arrive safe and sound and ready for use, so I can have no complaints about cost and carriage.
