Please note the $200 includes, entry to the fest, 4 bottles of 2016 Dark Lord, 1 BA Dark Lord, and $40 worth of vouchers to spend on food and drinks at the festival.

A little sticker shock. But basically you are just paying up front. I usually have 200+ in my pocket for that day anyways. $30 for the ticket to the fest. $80 for the 4 bottle allotment. $50 if I win the scratch off for the variant. (Only one 1/6 times, but I did get vanilla bean 🙂). Then money for awesome food and guest beer taps from literally all the best breweries in the nation.

Just sucks because I would usually bring my wife to try to get extra bottles but can't do it for $400. I can't justify that with the stockpile I'm sittin on of beer and the ridiculous amount of tickets I have for this upcoming concert season.

BS is amazing in its own right. Easy drinking full flavor deliciousness. KBS however is the big leagues. Barrel aged goodness. And their barrels are sooo good. But something for special occasions. Not as "drinkable" as BS.

If I had to pick one, Kbs no doubt.

Sadly I passed on tickets this year for the release at the brewery. It was a great experience the last 3 years. Best brewpub i have been to. Just Have to pick my spots with a young child at home. Kbs can be had in stores. Dark lord is not. And again a lot of concerts on the agenda this summer.

Looking at the price it is actually not to bad. You are guaranteed to get some. But man, if you want to bring someone else along. EEEK!

That is awesome by the way! Make sure to take some pics and share. I love going to festivals and one day I will make the pilgrimage to this one!!!

Yes, I modestly think so, too.

This is a lovely sipping beer, the sort of beer that on some nights (and last night was one of those) where one single beer was enough before heading off to bed. But what a splendid single beer, a really superb, smooth, and yes, sweet, beautifully balanced and deceptively disguised (disguised, because you don't taste the fact that it clocks in at 11.3% abv) beer.

More have been put aside for me of both the Backwood's Bastard, and the KBS. Fantastic beers, and lovely to have made the acquaintance of some of the really good US brands.

First let me preface it with, you have to like stouts and you have to like coffee, oh and it doesn't hurt that if you like Stone Brewery, you will more than likely like this one.

The pour is one of a deep muddy brown head with a pitch black body. Again, I love Stone beers so this one is no stranger to my pallet. Rich flavors and it hits you in the back of the tongue. It doesn't have a lasting taste to it thought, I am assuming this is due to the low ABV.

Again, I really like Stone beers and this one is delicious. It is not too heavy. Some say the coffee comes of a bit bitter, but for me the flavor is rich and is balanced out by the milk.

Another one I am really digging is the Stone Coffee Americana Stout. Tasty.

I just picked up the following which I can't wait to try:

Woodland Empire - Beast Moans Stout
Epic Brewing - Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout
Laughing Dog - Anubis Coffee Porter: "Imperial Char"
Ecliptic Brewing - Oort Imperial Stout: "Unfathomable Stout"
Three Magnets - Big Truck Coffee Stout: "Java Gourmet"
Southern Tier Brewing - Creme Brulee Milk Stout: "Creme Brulee"

I have the following on order:

Avery Brewing - Barrel Aged Tweak: "Tweaker in a Barrel" 17.8% ABV 😱
Logsdon Farmhouse Ales - Kilt Wit "Witbier".

As you can tell I like Stouts and Porters. 😀

Thanks a lot for your response.

Personally, I like porters a lot, especially in winter, and above all, I really rather like the excellent Belgian quads (St Bernardus Abt 12, or Rochefort 10, for example).

More recently, I have come across several excellent beers from the Founder's brewery stable (KBS and Backwood's Bastard are both superb, while the standard Breakfast Stout and ordinary Founder's Porter are exceedingly good, too. I'll admit to a strong liking for Old Curmudgeon also.

I love the Belgian brews you have listed with both of those being two of my favorite beers. Top of the list for me too. The Founders Breakfast Stout was outstanding. I was lucky enough to get some from a fellow and have it shipped to me. They are showing up here in California, but the supplies have been limited in my area and I have only seen a few of their offerings. Of course not the flavors or types that have I been seeking out! 😡 KBS, Breakfast Stout, and Backwood's Bastard.

I think they are mostly imported into NorCal and then they trickle down south. It's the reverse of Bell's!

Well, I have now graduated to my second beer of the night - also from Founder's - a glass of Backwood's Bastard. Sublime.

Besides, I am of an age where drinking rubbish no longer holds any appeal.

Two more crates - one of each - await me, having been - successfully - ordered by my splendid young delicatessen & wine bar manager.

Yup that would be the one. Oh man was it bad. It looked nice, smelled nice, but the taste. 😱😱😱

Of course it must have did pretty well as they did another batch this year. I will be steering clear of this one. Thank the big guy I did not spend my money on it, it was given to me. I don't think they liked it either and purchased one to many bottles of it! LOL

What a…..disturbing sounding brew……..reading you comments, and those also made by @mobilehaathi, I'm rather glad that I never came across this particular offering.
