hi...
i received a document on my mail from my friend.. i was easily able to open the doc on a windows pc through word...

however when i try opening through mail... it shows the attachemetn named winmail.dat.... however i cannot open the attachment... what do i do.. i have word and adobe both on my computer...

please as its an imp file for me.. thanks

In most cases the ".dat" file doesn't need to be opened. It's just a copy of the message using fancy fonts, styles, etc.

In some cases there could be an attachment in there, but it's better to get the original person to re-send the email using a properly attached attachment rather than an inline one ... we have to slowly train all these Windows dumb-dumbs somehow. ;) Microsoft Oulook for example has options to "Insert", "Insert as Text", and "Insert as Attachment" - choosing that last option is usually best rather than relying on simple "Insert".
