Selling an iMac bought in 2005 soon.
I want to completely wipe the hard drive clean.
Any software recommendations that can do this?
Don't want any data left behind. Want it all wiped out.

boot into your install DVD by holding C and open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu after choosing your language. from there choose the partition i.e. "Macintosh HD" and zero out the disk in Security Options from the Erase tab.

If you want a REAAAALY secure hard disk wipe...

    ...use something like this:

    http://www.dban.org/

It does multiple pass random disk writes, thus making it impossible to recover any data. Much better than a standard disk erase.

ANY piece of software that can erase disks will do a fine job deleting data. People don't buy $800 used computers just to see what data they can find.

If security is really a big issue, sell it without a hard drive.
