How easy/trouble would it be to wipe an iMac clean so I can sell it? I'm thinking about selling my iMac that I bought a year ago, to get a bigger one. I'm assuming if I can wipe or restore to factory settings, it'll return the OS back to Snow Leopard, correct? I love my iMac, but I'm still learning the inner workings of the OS.

Just re-install SL from your grey install media. Make sure you back Evrything up to an external source first though or you will lose your data and have nothing to put on your newbie.

am I right in assuming that my purchases in the mac app store will be saved, so when I get a new iMac, I can just log in with my iCloud ID and download apps that I already paid for?

Yes your purchases will be saved. Remember prior to selling the Mac to unauthorized that machine from your iTunes account, you only have 5 machines that can be authorized at one time.

Also you should look over
