"They are six times more likely to be “wealthy, well-educated, power-hungry, over-achieving, sophisticated, unkind and non-altruistic 30-50 year olds,”

al·tru·is·tic   /ˌæltruˈɪstɪk/ Show Spelled[al-troo-is-tik] Show IPA
–adjective
1. unselfishly concerned for or devoted to the welfare of others ( opposed to egoistic).
2. Animal Behavior . of or pertaining to behavior by an animal that may be to its disadvantage but that benefits others of its kind, often its close relatives.

I think being unkind and non-altruistic is a bit redundant. :p

I work construction while going back to school for design. I had to scrape my pennies together to afford my iPad. Sounds like the guy who wrote the article has a stick up his arse ;)

I'm not wealthy, overachieving, well-educated (still a high school student), unkind, or non-altruistic. Needless to say, I'm also not 30-50 years old. I'm just someone who appreciates a good tablet. This article was written by an idiot who wanted to get attention by insulting users of a product he disliked.

I don't think so. In common usage, non-altruistic means you don't go out of your way to help others, while unkind means you are actively mean to others. Quite a significant difference, IMO.

When I read the title, I thought this was going to be about that we don't share our ipads, which of course is because there's no "valet" mode where your private data isn't visible to anyone using it.

But anyway, I fit the demographic.

I liked this bit:

As to the critics-who-are-a-test-drive-away-from-being-fans, the study found that “bashing the iPad is, in a way, an identity statement for independent geeks,” wrote Koelkebeck.

“As a mainstream, closed-platform device whose major claim to fame is ease of use and sex appeal, the iPad is everything that they are not.”

I am a 25 year old iPad owner that uses it for community organizing in my local community, among other things. Also I am a college student -- this article is, among other things, ridiculous..

So now that I know there are other iPad owners out there with the same values as me we should meetup and plot the takeover of the world.

Ouch! I'm an iPad owner and that hurts--a little. Oh well, I'll just step on some homeless people while playing with my iPad. That always makes me feel better.

What about you? Are you unkind, un-altruistic and selfish you nasty iPad owners?

that's a retarded generalization. sometimes i dont even like taking my ipad out on the bus or wherever so people don't think i'm like that. i'm in college so it might be weird in class and stuff as well. as for being "wealthy" - well yes, if you have an ipad you have at least $500 to blow, but i mean...the same goes for BMW owners and people with expensive things or any kind. seems like a stupid thing to say in general. as for being mean and power hungry that's just unfounded nonsense.

I'm a selfish elite...so what?

jk

Whoever wrote this must have just been in a mood that day lol. I got an iPad cause I like everything about it. I bought it with my own money. It's my iPad and I don't care what people say about me having one :)

On the basis of psychographic profiling?????

Psychographic profiling used to come to the iPad conclusions, is one of the most over-sold, over-priced and under-performing bits of bull puckey in the world. My HR director persuaded me in the late 1990's to use this as a major part of our recruitment process in place of the usual short listing, followed by in-depth interviews (I suspect he got a nice back-hander from the company doing the profiling for us). It was a total disaster - think round pegs; square holes. Not a single person employed by this methodology was working for us a year later. Many of the other folks recruited by the conventional methods over 20 years, were still working for the company, when it was taken over earlier this year.

I'm none of the above.
The lack of wealth in part due to having bought an iPad, among other Apple products.

This thread was from more than 5 years ago, when the iPad was brand new and hardly anyone had one. If it was ever accurate, it certainly isn't now, when everyone from school kids to soccer moms have iPads.

Is it bad that this makes me happy? I mean 6x? That's pretty exciting if true.

Edit: just realized the age of this thread
