Wired keyboard with number pad

External hard drive does not mount when plugged into the keyboard USB but does mount when plugged into the back of the iMac...does the keyboard support this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
 
In my experience, the keyboard only provides very low power - not enough to power an external drive.
