Unfortunately BMW is going to nickel and dime you by charging $300 for the Car Play update. Of course this is nothing in the overall price. Just a 'slap in the face' way of doing it.

You need wifi in your car and an update from the car manufacturer if you want wireless Carplay in existing cars.

Like @ScottC7 i also have a Civic 2016 we do have wifi in the car, but i think for this feature to work the manufacturer would have to update the head unit. That might never happened, all we can do is hope.

A software update is entirely different from needing different hardware. We COULD at least pay a small fee for upgraded software.

According to Apple's requirements, the wifi in the car also has to be able to be a "base station." If the wifi is only capable of being a client, it won't work for wireless Carplay.

Yes that's what i meant sorry, update the software on the head unit, not the hardware itself.

I can confirm this as well. Wireless CarPlay works great and I would hate to have to go back to wired. Virtually hassle-free the way BMW has it implemented. Very convenient.
