I bought a samsung convertible wireless charger. I was charging my phone and then i picked it up and realized it was warm and so was the charger. is this normal?

Yes this is normal for wireless charging, as it's not very efficient so a lot of the energy is lost as heat.

Where is the wireless chip in the iPhone X? I’m trying to optimize the magnet placement for my in-car holder.

For what it is worth, I have an 8 with the Mophie charging pad, and since iOS 11.1 while it used to get a little warm at times, it does not any more so far. Also, the annoying tone-reconnect sound that would happen intermittently while the phone was charging, like it was reconnecting, has not happened once in 4 days. I find it does not matter where you place the phone as long as the pad charging light comes on and the phone tones (if not set to silent).
