I’m normally a cd mount Guy, but after getting the X, I can’t mount the phone horizontally which blocks my backup cam.
    Looking for another mount. Suggestions?
Not too keen on vent mounts. Not keen on magnetic mounts either.

Wireless charging would be a bonus.

2014 Prius. Unfortunately, the windshield slope is pretty steep on this car.

I’d look into proclipusa (proclipusa.com) first, to see if there is a suitable mounting base. If you can’t find one there I’d checkout kudausa (kudausa.com). Once you’ve got the base mount figured out, iOttie sells a charging holder that you can get attached to it. I posted this picture of my setup in another thread, but will repost here:

If you want to see more details and photos of my setup, I’ll snap a few pics tomorrow.

I would love to see more of your setup! The iOttie seems really good but I’m not 100% certain on how it mounts to the pro clip base.

I have an hottie setup too, but doesnt work for my purposes though, I have CarPlay and wireless will not transmit the data so cant use it without plugging in the phone anyway ... I moved the hottie to my office desk and its great having a charging stand there ...

Can you share a few more pics of your setup? So what you’re saying is this iottie charging holder can be connected directly to the proclip car mount?

Sorry for the delay, I’ve been super busy as of late!

To answer your question - yes, but the real key is the use of the garmin style (17 mm I believe) ball mount. I no longer use a proclipusa mount, because they didn’t have one for my current car that went in a position that I really liked. With my older car, they had one that I could position almost exactly where I currently have it in my newer car. I’m now using a kudausa product for the mount. The kudausa mounts are definitely nicer looking, but require a bit more effort to get attached to your vehicle. If there is a proclipusa mount for your car in a position you like, I’d go that route.

Here are some more pics of my setup:

The leather base that’s attached to my car is the kudausa mount (alternative is the proclipusa mount).

The plastic plate that attaches to it with a couple of screws and the plastic tabs allows a garmin style ball (17 mm) to attach to it. Here is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ACP2FY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The final piece is the iOttie itself, which attaches to that garmin style ball mount. It’s actually pretty simple, but you might need to source the parts from a few different kits.

One neat thing about this setup with the deatachable 17 mm ball is that you can buy a couple more and fix them to other style mounts. That way they slide on and off very easily. Before the iOttie, I was using this mount which was cheap and worked very well: https://www.amazon.com/Midsize-Tabl...=1510204903&sr=1-7&keywords=Arkon+phone+mount

I never really used it in practice, but I also played around with a mount that could hold my 10.5” iPad, and it actually worked well. I just found it overkill - the phone is good enough. https://www.amazon.com/Tablet-Winds...1510204982&sr=1-2&keywords=Arkon+tablet+mount

So any 17mm garmin style ball (fixed in any way, even air vent) + iOttie Qi.
Noted for when I get the X.

Here are a few more pics with the phone in the iOttie.

I was playing with my assortment of parts today (I've been playing Dr. Frankenstein with these car mounts for a few years now!), and I realized that the little ball that the iOttie base uses must be slightly smaller than the 17mm Garmin ball. I was going to try to find a use for the base, but I realized that none of my ball locks are able to tighten up enough on the iOttie base. I guess the iOttie phone mount portion has clips that expand enough to accommodate the slightly larger 17mm ball, because that part of it seems to work just fine.

Anyway, just something to consider if you were planning on building a setup like mine AND finding a use for the iOttie base. Here's a picture just so it's clear what parts I'm talking about. This is the iOttie base attached to an Arkon phone mount and Arkon 17mm ball. You can see that the phone mount part is sort of drooping down because the ball lock won't tighten enough.

Another quick tidbit, I came across this youtube video a few minutes ago. This will probably make it more clear than I've done with my posts. He's basically got the same sort of setup that I do, but he's using a proclip base.

I have an iOttie on a Garmin vent out. After taking the pics, I routed the cord to behind the dash so it's hidden now. Much cleaner look now.

This is great! However, personally I like the Proclip simple drop in solution. I wish someone would come out with a proclip style holder with wireless charging. I think the only time I would use wireless is in the car so this is ideal. Also, I'd want a hardwire solution. I suppose I need the market to mature a little more to have those features. But I'm seriously considering this iouttie set up. Thanks for posting.
