What is going on? I put it on a charging matt at Starbucks and I didn't see it charging. Another guy at the other end of the table put his iPhone 8 on the charging matt and nothing at all.

Starbucks has not activated that protocol yet. A guy I know who works at Starbucks said that corporate scrapped the whole thing so they just leave them turned off.

If the guy with the iPhone 8 is not working either wouldnt you deduce from that, that the issue is with the charger at starbucks...I dont know just a thought... rather than starting a thread with a title that makes it seem like wireless charging is defective on the iphone X

Not necessarily. I didn't know if there was an activation setting or something else I had todo to make wireless charging work.

Exactly. What a strange thread.

Also, check under the table for a switch on/off. Some tables won’t power on the electricity until you do it manually.

Just a thought.

I thought all wireless charging enabled phones currently on the market were Qi? or at least the big manufacturers, what an odd decision by starbucks if thats the case..... sorry i am not too versed in the technology but can powermat be amended to Qi or would they need to re-do all of their stations? if the latter then that wasn't really well thought out by them, or they had some poor intel that Apple was not going Qi and jumped the gun.

“Wireless charging not working at Starbucks”

Probably a better option. Tough forum today. Lots of people on edge lol. Just giving an example of a slightly less alarmist sounding title. People, especially today, feel like the fifteen seconds they wasted clicking here because of your title is just too much lol.

Anyway, Apple has instructions on how to use wireless charging too. Idk if it’s in their “finger tips” booklet but it’s online. I know this because it “wasn’t working” on my wife’s 8 and it turns out it (the puck) just wasn’t plugged in right lol.

Apparently they use PMA, the other standard that no one uses.

Yes, they chose poorly. Duracell probably funded their rollout.

There has been some buzz they are trying to convert back to Qi.

There was an article stating that Starbucks was already set up to push out a simple software update that would switch to Qi compatible charging. I heard that Starbucks corporate ordered that the charging tables be turned off for the time being.

Strange definition of ‘simple’.
A simple software update can be pushed out overnight. At best, these things have embedded flash firmware. You have to manually send people around to flash them, and deal with software issues.
