I just bought my first Android phone (samsung galaxy s6) that has wireless charging and I absolutely love it. I purchased 5 different charging mats, and I can tell you, they aren't created equal. If you get a good one, (which 4 of my 5 are) then you have no issue lining it up to charge. So much nicer than plugging in cables (which you can still do if you want to use it while charging) and very easy to use. The phone is extremely thin and no extra bulk added with the feature. I have the 6 plus too, and honestly, I don't know how i got by without wireless charging this long, it is just so convenient.

At least with a cable you can still pick up your phone and use it while its charging. On a charging pad you can't pick up your phone and use it while its charging. In my experience (with the new round Samsung charging pad) I found that It had to be placed on the pad just right and it was almost impossible to use while laying down charging since the device is bigger than the pad itself and any pressure anywhere on the pad caused the phone to rock backward or forward off the pad. Plus its extremely slow.

App is short for Application. There is an application you need to use in order for it to work. The term "application" refers to putting something into operation.

Yes, an Application or an App is a piece of software running on a device. How does software charge an iPhone, let alone wirelessly, on its own? At best it seems like something is missing in all of that.

Again, how can an app wirelessly charge the iPhone? You still need hardware to make it work .

I love it when we get schooled on these things, right down to to "roll eyes"

Im not really for Wireless charging, i use my iPhone lots whilst its on charge, i don't think i can do this with wireless charging.

You'd be surprised. The option to use a cable is still there, but if you just put it down for a few moments here and there, you get a quick charge without thinking about it. So far, my experience has been awesome, no issues lining it up, i plug it in when i want to use it (i got a really cool cable off stacksocial that has both lightning and micro charging in one long cable), and it gets charged whenever i put it down. I even use the wireless pad in my vehicles, which is super handy.

I used to think wireless charging was gimmicky (as I did with the fingerprint scanner) until i used it regularly, and now (just like the fingerprint scanner) I would really miss it if it wasn't an option.

Obviously for some people here it's so hard... Lol rolls eyes

A new way that could be more convenient doesn't mean anyone thinks the current way is hard/difficult. Thats something you said on our behalf in the 2nd post for some reason.

The option for wired charging will always be there anyway.

This is one of those features that I question why someone wouldn't want it. If they don't like it, don't use it. Arguments otherwise in my opinion are either from someone thats a Apple apologist (since Apple doesn't currently have it) or for some reason extremely selfish (if they don't want it they don't want anyone to have it).

Once upon a time I saw a video of ranged wireless charging (I haven't been able to find it since). The technology could charge a device about 3 meters directly in front of the charger.

In the video the charger was built into a monitor so when you were sitting in front of the monitor the phone would charge.

This is the kind of tech I expect to start seeing especially from Apple. They could build it into the iMac even which sounds like an Apple thing to do with their ecosystem.

I've seen wireless charging for the iPhone via 3rd party apps. It looks pretty cool. You don't have to look for cables or continue buying cables do to wear and tear. Some of the devices are small enough to put in your pocket.
An app alone can't give you wireless charging capabilities, you need hardware to go along with it.

I don't see why so many are against wireless charging. It is a nice feature. If you don't like it....don't use it. Sure its not hard to plug my iphone in but then again...why have Apple Pay? Is it so hard to pull out your wallet? Why have a camera? Is it so hard to pull out a DSLR? Why have a music player? Is it so hard to pull out your ipod? Features are nice to have and enhance the user experience. But it doesn't mean you have to use them if you don't like them.

This has always been the story with iPhone users. Many don't find features useful until Apple includes it, then it's the best thing in the world.

Who needs LTE? 3G is fast enough.
Who needs a screen larger than 3.5"?
Why would I want to multitask on my phone?
Why would I want a smart watch?
Why use contactless payments when I can just use my wallet?
Typing in a PIN is not hard, who needs a fingerprint scanner?

All of these things were done at one time or another on a non-iPhone, but of course most iPhone users said the above comments.

Now people are saying:

Why would I need wireless charging? Plugging in isn't hard...
Why would I need more than 1GB of RAM?
Who needs a camera with higher than 8MP?

As a current s6 owner who was pumped to have wireless charging I now can say it's not as cool as I thought it once was. I'd rather have my device plugged in and use it while it charges. When my device is on my wireless charger it's essentially unusable.

There still is some fumbling around as well because it has to go on the charger just right, it's not as easy as you think.

Apple is not going to implement the current (dumb) paradigm of place mats.

It's not going to happen this year, but soon enough Apple products will create zones around themselves (intelligently) to charge other apple devices.

Think of how this will work with future AppleTV/Airports:

You walk into your home, and your devices just charge. Your iPad, your watch, etc. They just charge. Then Starbucks/McDonalds/Dunkin Donuts/Malls/Schools/etc set up charging stations (just like they all have done with iBeacons in a remarkably short time). Batteries get to be smaller because they are always juicing up on the go. I predict this change will be introduced within two years (I've been watching this field for 3 years now), adopted in businesses mentioned above within 5, and is the new normal in 10 (as in, any appliance that doesn't draw insane amounts of power like a fridge or stove won't have plugs, you unbox your TV, stick it on the wall, and just turn it on.).

NOTE: EVERYONE and their brother are racing towards this paradigm. The placemat model is simply a stepping stone. http://www.patentlyapple.com/patent...ace-to-deliver-wireless-charging-systems.html

Apple would have to add a coil for inductive charging to make that happen .Maybe in the new 7. We could try wireless charge. It all depends on Cook.

the watch is has wireless charging so it could happen, however I think it will take away from the over all battery life.
