I just received an advertising email from Apple, pushing wireless headphones for the first time..

With 3 ads, for Mac, iPad and iPhone (below) all with wireless 'phones included.

Whilst the upcoming iPhone release is almost certainly going to see the loss of the 3.5mm audio jack, given the rumours and leaks, I think this is a fairly clear sign that Apple's spin on this will be to push wireless headphones, rather than lightning-port wires headphones. Or Bluetooth.

With their current focus on fitness and music, I think the next iPhone keynote is going to be heavily pushed towards how innovative the new iPhone is, "because with wireless headphones it is easier to work out, or go running or whatever, but still listen to your (Apple) music, without that pesky wire getting caught or in your way."

...forgetting of course that we can already run wireless headphones with our current iPhones if we really wanted to!

...and trying to hide the fact that the new iPhone is basically the old iPhone, but with an uglier camera lens.

You can't know anything about the new iPhone, similar to the 6s, which blew everything away.

This is why I have a 6s plus being delivered today, If I like the new version I will upgrade to the 7s since I am on the iphone upgrade program. If not I will just pay the 2 years and keep the 6s plus for several. Not interested in a phone without a headphone jack at this point. In a year I may well be, want to see any bugs shook out of the 7 as well.

Particularly not interested in anything with the beats name on them. A couple of months ago I picked up a set of beats solo 2's for 80 bucks on deep special. The right side was not working out of the box, moving the cup made it cut in and out. I found out it was a common problem, mostly after a few months. They replaced them, ishop had to send them to the us, but the wife's bose earbuds sound MUCH better and the solo 2 are around 200.00 headphones.

I thought for the price they would be good, wish I had gone for sennheisers like I was planning on. Even overrated bose is far less overrated.

Not really sure what the point of OP is... ?

the point is...

In threads discussing the rumoured loss of the headphone jack in future iPhones, there is discussion of lightning-connected headphones, and whether they're a good or bad thing... etc.

A recent third-party 'dongle' adaptor release generated much comment.

With this email advert today, there is increasing evidence that Apple will actually be going with wireless rather than lightning-powered as their preferred method for headphone use, and the method they'll push in the iPhone keynote. Perhaps not even mentioning lightning-connected headphones.

(It's like they're softening us up for the announcement of no headphone jack, by already showing us the 'solution'.)

I have a feeling you need to be looking as from most rumors the jack is toast.

Lol I haven't decided yet..... IMessage might topple my desire for the jack. More like 60/40 on Android vs Apple atm. I will actually wait and see when they announce it. Remember rumors were of a Macbook Pro refresh in March and WWDC and both rumors never became true....

I doubt the email means much, but if they are going to really drop the headphone jack it would make the most sense for them to go wireless since those can be at least used with other devices instead of lightning which only would work on iOS.

I have a pair of Beats wireless headphones and I'm happy with the sound quality.

I'm not happy that the "remote" on the cable doesn't work properly (it pauses playing music, but tapping the remote won't start music, you have to launch it manually from the iPhone for that, which is something which has been broken since iOS 9.x came out). The volume control works, but the inability to start music is annoying.

I do use the 3.5mm socket though to connect my iPhone to the aux input in my car; but then I have an eight-year old car that doesn't have bluetooth audio (it has a bluetooth connection for the phone, which allows hands free calling, but cannot stream audio via Bluetooth).

I have the Beats wireless earbuds. I hardly ever use them because it's another thing to remember to charge, and always forget to charge then because I am starting to run short on free outlets thanks to all our Apple watches and IPads and IPhones and Bluetooth speakers and Nintendo handhelds.. They sound good to me and they are nice to wear but I will probably always prefer a wired version for general use if I have that option.

Android is going to go the same way also. Just ask Lenovo/Moto which also no longer has a headphone jack.

Well the Samsung Galaxy s7 has one and the LG g5 has it as well. With Android there is options and if I decide to change I'll pick one that has one. I will avoid this issue as long as possible. Granted I do have wireless headphones being the bose qc35 and beats solo 2 wireless but I like the choice of plugging them in once the battery dies

Give it a ye

give it a year and the jack will be gone from every new phone. It's just a reality of the industry. Especially when both lightning and USB C support audio and data.
