My internet is flawless in my mac OS, but when I try and wirelessly connect in Windows I don't have internet at all. It just doesn't work! When I directly connect an ethernet cable to my router it works fine, but otherwise no-go.

I can see the networks and everything, it just refuses to connect with them..

    Pulling my hair out

    1. Is Windows patched and up-to-date? Specifically, do you have the latest service pack and driver for your wireless card?

    2. Does it say it is connected and then not allow you to access internet sites or do you attempt to connect only to have the connection aborted/denied?

I'd suspect a problem with your TCP/IP settings, some router setting, or a security issue, but I need to know more.

Are you sure it's the correct WEP key? Normally you get "wrong bit length" type errors when you have the wrong key (too short or too long).

Thank you for the hasty replies, wow! There has been a twist to my tale...

I took the laptop to university and I can connect to its wireless fine! So it looks like it's a problem with my home network, not my laptop or anything of the like. And this is probably the wrong forum now for my issue lol, but would anyone know what issue could be causing my home wireless router to hate me in xp?

    Thanks for any/all

    In persona non grata
Ahhh, the joys of wireless networking in XP.

    Try this.

    Click the start button.
    Click "My Connections".
Highlight the connection (network) you're having trouble with.
Drill down until you see an option to configure the connection, click this option.
Make sure the encryption type XP has stored for this connection is correct, also enter the password.

Sometimes, XP will assign an "incorrect" encryption type to a network. If yours has done this, XP will never accept the correct type and password until you change it under network settings.

Yeah, it had my key entered as some 6-digit/letter, so i changed it to the (much longer) real key. I hit "OK" but when I go back into the properties the pw is the same wrong pw as before. It never actually saves! wtf mate
