Hey guys,

I need your advice. Which keyboard/mouse in combination with your iMac are you going to buy?

Personally, I love the wireless stuff because it can be used without mess and wires on your desk, but on the other side the wireless input devices use batteries which need to be replaced regularly. I see that a lot of people buy their iMac with just wired keyboard and mouse.

Do you know how many batteries you will need to change in a year if you are going to buy a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse made by Apple?
I would love to hear what you think about it from your experience.
If I will have to spend a fortune buying new batteries/rechargeable batteries, then I guess I will cancel my order and order the wired stuff instead...

That's what I could find on the Apple website:
"Question 2: How long will the batteries last?
Answer: The Apple Wireless Keyboard can operate on the same set of alkaline batteries for up to nine months. The Apple Wireless Mouse can operate on the same set of lithium batteries for up to three months. How long the batteries last in the keyboard or mouse depends on what kind of batteries you use, how much you use the keyboard and mouse, and how old the batteries are."

Thx in advance...

I use a wireless keyboard and wired mouse. The wireless mouse just ate batteries too fast for my liking, plus it never fails you won't have replacements on hand :p

I have had my wireless set for almost 2 years (since the thin aluminum KB came out). I have found those life - estimates to be correct. I wish I had the wired set. I plan to get a wired set, especially the new shorter wired KB. Not only is the life of the mouse too short but you have to tolerate a lot of low-battery warnings.

My experience with the Apple wireless kb and mighty mouse is different from others here it seems. The keyboard, even though I almost never use it (mini is hooked to tv for watching dled movies) eats batteries and 'loses connection' all the time. The mouse batteries seem to last forever.. I don't understand why my experience is exactly opposite of the others so far...

I do have a Logitech LX7 Wireless mouse for one of my PCs, and that thing lasts forever on batteries. I use that computer much more often and my last set of rechargeables through it lasted about 10 months.. Its much cheaper than a mighty mouse too. Another problem with the mighty mouse is if you pick it up to reposition on your mouse pad you often initiate whatever is set to happen when its squeezed (yes you can turn that off).

So if I were you, and looks were important, I'd get the wired Apple stuff. If looks aren't that important, I'd get the wired KB and the wireless LX7.
