sorry if this is not the right forum

this is a long shot, but i thought i'd give it a try, see if anyone knows anything about this.

Here is the situation. I will be having a iMac setup on my desktop with the speakers plugged in to it, it will be using the ethernet jack in the room. I also have a macbook, i like to use on my bed when i need to relax. I will have the iMac setup to share internet over wireless, so i will be connected to my iMac from my macbook. I was wonder is there anyways to play my music on my macbook in itunes to the speakers connected to my iMac wirelessly, just like the airport express music streaming.

not looking for hardware solutions, wondering if there is any software solutions.

No, but you could use the macbook to get a remote desktop view (using VNC) of your imac so you can use iTunes on your iMac directly.

Wait a tic, you'll be in the same room? ...Isn't this what Front Row was made for?

yes i will be in the same room, vnc is a solution, but i'd rather not have a duplicate library of music, and frontrow is nice and all, but it's still easier to browse my music on the machine i'm currently on. Sorry being so anal about this, and i apologize for being so lazy to get up to change music on my iMac, or to move my head up to see the iMac's screen, so i can use the remote to change music.;)

But that doesn't play the music out of his iMac's speakers—it'd play on the MacBook.

Also, the word is "your."

Why would you need a duplicate library if you use vnc?
All your music would still be on your iMac only.

sorry that i did not mention this. All my music is currently on my macbook, and i think i like to keep it this way, cause it will be easier for me to listen to my music when i'm not in my room, (in class, library, etc)

Ok, so do it this way:
    1) Share your music from your macbook to your iMac.
    2) VNC from your macbook to your iMac
    3) Access your shared music on the iMac, using VNC connection from Macbook
    4) Play music on iMac speakers

In that case... if ur running Leo, you can just screen share via finder. If ur running Tiger, I would use chickenofthevnc.

i guess that will have to do, unless there is some software hack that makes it speaker attached to the iMac acts like the speakers attached to teh airport express.:D

    thanks guys.

You don''t even have to VNC, your imac comes with a remote control.

This is how you should do it.
Though I agree with ~J~ if you are running Leopard on your MB that you should just use screen sharing and don't need VNC.
This is a very simple problem to solve, and I hope the OP isn't making it harder than it should be.

    Read This Post!!

    Hah,

i have this setup. Buy AirFoil (its 25 dollars) at http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ It does all of what you need using the same technology as itunes and airport express.

It has a free addon that allows you to send music to networked macs as if they were remote speakers.

    great program
