Got a good deal at circuit city on this wireless router but it won't work with my MBP unibody. I turn airport on and it detects the connection but when i put my network password in, it says "connection timeout."

I have a Motorola Modem connected to the router. The router is connected to a PC as well. The MBP works fine when i use the ethernet cable.

thanks for your help.

...it's probably your security settings

I've found that different laptops respond to security settings in very different ways; you can setup a network in which all Mac laptops would be able to connect, but for whatever reason Windows-based laptops would not and visa versa.

My solution to this has generally been as follows:

1. Disable all wireless security (including WEP, WPA, Mac Address Filtering, etc) and try to connect -- if you can, then it's probably a security setting; if you can't, I'd return the router.

2. If you had the security set to WEP, try using WPA or WPA2 .. essentially just switch it up until you are able to connect properly. (I prefer WPA2 because that seems to work well with most machines, in my experience)

3. Lastly, check to see that there are no firmware updates for your router.

Hope this helps.

Also, this may seem obvious, but you should rule out any potential problems that your MBP may have by attempting to connect to a different wireless network...
