how do you set up a wireless network on a macbook so it requires a password to join? i dont want random people on my network.

It is all controlled by your router. In the router setup (usually web based) you simply specify a WEP or WPA passkey and then any computer that wants to access your wireless network needs to enter in that key.

It depends on the router.

The Apple Routers have a simple way to do it in the AirPort Utility, under Wireless Security.
