I had been waiting for Black Friday to get the 100 promo code on a 11” M1, however it did not apply to the veterans store so was not going to get as good of a deal as I thought…. So I visited refurbs and found a 2020 11” 256gb for 620, …. 600 if you count the Apple Cash from using their card… so anyway approx 100 less than the 128 M1. would you have done the same?

What I would have done doesn't matter. If you'll use the storage space on the refurbed 2020 model, I'm sure it'll be fine. Price matters if you can't swing the higher cost and it sounds like that's a genuine concern for you. I wouldn't lose any sleep over your decision. Enjoy!

Right now, the new iPads don't take full advantage of the M1 chip. Unless you have a job and professionally need to crunch video, the 2020 iPad Pro is just as good. Plus with the 256gb a lot better deal for a normal user.

Yes, in 3 years time, the 2021 iPad will run the latest software because of the M1, but not now, and not next year.

Thanks… one more question, I had gotten a budget moko case from Amazon but it just said 3rd gen…. I know the 12.9“ got thicker in 2021 but is the 11” same size? No biggie to send the case back but if it will still fit I’ll keep it under the tree

All 11" generations (1st, 2nd and 3rd) use the same cases. They're all the same size.

It really wasn’t an affordability thing… it was a value thing…. I had researched it a good bit and there really was not much compelling anyone to upgrade to the M1 …just wanted to get feedback since I pulled the trigger on the refurb, I don’t know if my Daughter will utilize the 256 fully but she most likely will never run out of space now. She’s in college and has a MacBook so this will just be a companion tablet

Does it say 2021/3rd gen only or is it also compatible with 2018/1st gen and 2020/2nd gen? The speaker holes/location changed slightly so a 3rd gen only case might be blocking parts of the speaker on older devices.

Fits fine otherwise.

Ok thanks, it did say 3rd gen only…. The iPad is suppose to arrive by the 1st so I’ll just go ahead and see if it’s a good fit, it’s a pretty minimal 10 buck case, I just wanted her to have something to protect it a little, figured she could upgrade herself later if she wanted something nicer…. Also sprung for one of those tablet pillows, it’s actually pretty nice… might have to order another for me https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093BF11KK?ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details&th=1

First generation 11” models also have a different camera layout. First generation only cases won’t work on later generation models because of the smaller camera cut out hole.

I know but in general, cases for new generations are backwards compatible with earlier models. Hence, a 3rd gen case would typically fit the 1st gen iPP 11”, just with a bigger hole than the camera needs.

I have this case which I believe can accommodate camera and speaker placement on all 3 models nicely.

Thanks for posting that link, I think I will go ahead and order that one and return the moko case, I like the flexible tpu better and it’s usually more grippy also

I did the same thing with a 12.9" Refurb. Saved $250 + Best Buy had new 3rd generation Magic Keyboard which is "correct" for the 4th Gen IPP for $200 + $99 gen2 Pencil on sale from Amazon.
So for ~ $50 over the cost of just an M1 I got the keyboard and pencil.
Battery life isn't the greatest but I don't think it's much better on the M1 either.

Although the more battery life the better I think unlike an iPhone most people use tablets in their homes next to a charger… so it’s less of an issue, but yeah I can kill the battery on my 12.9 4th gen pretty quickly, but anyway I feel much better about this purchase than I do about the iPhone 13 purchase I made for my other daughter… 799 just seems a little crazy for a non pro phone…they needed to stay in the 600 range imho

For $100 difference I would have gone for the M1 personally. A12 is a couple gens old now, 2gb less ram and the ssd in the M1 is a fair deal quicker. I feel that’s worth the $100, especially considering ones brand new and ones a refurb. If the price gap was bigger I would say go for the older model

The price difference was actually 200.00 if I had stayed with 128gig, I mainly just felt better bumping it up to 256gig so the older model would have something the new one didn’t haha….plus the 256gig was actually a slightly higher discount than the 128…. Not huge but 20 bucks is 20 bucks

I have a 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 and it's fine. No lag, no issues. You should be good for years, honestly.

An interesting cyber Monday find, soo it’s a normal wall charger, a 10,000 mah MagSafe charger that actually sticks to the phone and also has a 18watt usb-c out for quick charging or powering a HomePod mini for a day or two…. I’m sold lol, i Love neat gadgets if they work well, hopefully this does, no reviews so must be pretty new https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0991XJXSX?smid=A9WXM1YUI0JGO&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp&th=1

Click on the video on the left if you visit that Amazon page… to cool, it’s the kinda thing you wish someone would make but they never do haha

I got a great deal on a 2020 ipad Pro after the M1 launched too, most users would not notice any difference in performance. It’s a pro iPad we are talking about not the base model or anything with an old chip.
