Why? Hmmm let’s see. I can stream music through my Bluetooth headphones. I can initiate workout app to keep track of calories burned, heart rate, duration of workout..time in between sets. Take phone calls and message in case of emergency, all without the iPhone.

So my question is..why WOULDN’T you workout with the Apple Watch. I find it enhances my workout. Also, I have the SBSS and have zero worries of scratching it

For real. I lift weights and would feel naked without my Apple Watch. I can leave my phone in the car and still listen to music. The heart rate sensor on the 4 is much more accurate this year and I use it to keep track of rest time between sets. It’s great.

Is the DLC only on the new S4 or does that apply to the S3 also?
The SBSS has used DLC since the original Apple Watch. It's not perfect, since a lot depends on how well the coating adheres to the underlying steel, but from the accounts I've read Apple's process seems to be a good one.
Why even wear a watch at the gym? Too much chance of it getting banged up on weight-lifting equipment. My gym, 24 Hour Fitness, has clocks on every wall, so the time is always there when you need it. I go to the gym to workout, not strut my Apple Watch around in the hopes that someone will admire me. Now running, that's different; I always wear my Apple Watch while running because it actually has functions that help with running: heart rate, GPS and stopwatch.
I strongly suspect you're trolling here. Your response just conjures up the image of the testosterone dripping body builder type who's constantly grunting and thinks he's some amazing Adonis. Meanwhile the rest of the gym is rolling their eyes at you and can't wait until you leave.

If your first reaction when you see an Apple Watch is that the person wearing it is just some poser who's trying to show off the fact that they have an Apple Watch, and that you're somehow above all of that, then I have a suggestion for you. Have a look in the mirror; I suspect that's where you'll find the real poser. Meanwhile leave every else alone, as they have no reason to justify to you what tools they find useful in their exercise regimen.

Anyone use the silver SS in the gym and if so, how has it held up? I know just looking at it wrong can put microscratch on it, but those can be polished out. Anyone substantially beat up a SS in the gym? Thanks.

I look at the steel Apple Watch the same as a steel mechanical watch. It's meant to get scratched up and beat to heck, which is why it is made out of steel in the first place. Whether it's a Rolex or an Apple Watch, I pretty much wear them doing anything, from yard work to working out to rock climbing to construction projects around the house.

Interestingly enough, once that Apple Watch get’s that first scratch, you seem to care a little bit less about trying to keep it perfect. At least that’s been my mentality when I did own the regular stainless Apple Watch, knowing that it kind of gives the Watch character if it has a scratch or some type of blemish on the casing.

I generally agree, but I personally think it would be better if Apple went with brushed steel instead of the polished.

The two extremes:
Pamper your watch and hope you get “enough” for your pristine watch once you decide to swap it for something newer, or wear it as much as you can justify for as long as you have it, for maximum use per dollar spent.

I’ve now got the SBSS, and do the latter.

I wrote a lengthy post on this earlier. I don’t workout with my watch because I wear weightlifting gloves with wrist straps so it couldn’t be placed on my wrist. Additionally I don’t need apps to lift or do cardio, only a clock, which is on the wall in the weight area and right in front of the pool. Until my health insurance company offers a discount by reporting health stuff from the watch I don’t see the need. I’m at expert level lifting, doing cardio on a bike, swimming, etc. same goes for nutrition. Everything is in my memory and this is the case for many who workout an awful lot. The watch, health apps (outside of bpm monitoring) are more for beginners in my opinion. The people I see at my gym using the watch spend more time futzing with it than they do actually working out. All experts in my gym do not use a watch as they are a wealth of experience, many years of experience so the watch would just rob time or lengthen workouts. I keep my phone on me for music and if I pull it out it’s to change a music station, which is rare. I usually click the button on my pb3’s to skip to the next track. I use the watch everywhere else. We all have different uses for the watch.

Huh? Use it for workouts and swim tracking. Plus playing podcasts and music without needing an iPhone.

You know it’s not just a watch right?

I’m an expert lifter and cardio guy myself. Been working out for 26 years now and I find the Apple Watch to be a great assistant for my workouts. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
