With all this talk about saving SHSHs, how will I actually USE them?

Say when I need to restore and I restore it to 4.1. What will I need to do at this point with the SHSHs on my computer to be able to downgrade to 4.0? It's a legitimate question that I'm curious about.

You run TinyUmbrella, click "Start TSS Server," then shift- (Win) or option-click (Mac) on "Restore" in iTunes. That's all there is to it.
