with Photostrem do I need to actively save in iPhoto

Hi guys,

I just want to try and clarify something.

I've just migrated over from mobile me to iCloud and am trying to get me head around some of it.

The info on photo-stream says that photos are only saved for 30 days.
The photos from my iPhone are appearing under the photo Stream tab in iPhoto on my iMac in iPhoto.

Do I need to import them/drag them into a different location within iPhoto to keep them permanently?

...and on a sidenote of this I really hope they integrate a way for your photo stream images to save directly to your computer automatically, not just when running iPhoto/Aperture. I open iPhoto at least once every 30 days anyway, but I wish it were more automated.
