They claim it only shows up when a device is connect to your Apple ID through iCloud...even though my iPhone doesn't show up...lame

It also gives a really good indication of where it is in the production line. With iPhone's, it typically means that the device has shipped already, and is en route from China. If I have to wait, I can at least obsess over it.
