I bought the iPhone 5 last year, and I have not regret that decision at all so far! I am running the latest iOS 8.3 version. I also really want to get the iOS 9 this september, but will i be able to? now with iPhone 5c in the game?thank you :)

99% chance yes, look at how long each iphone lasted from launch ios till support was dropped, & the amount of major ios updates each newer phone is getting is growing as more power gets put into each generation. the 4s could even get it, id say a 55%/45% chance

(& people still think apple cuts off old devices "on purpose"..)

More than likely at least one more iOS version will come to the 5. Beyond that, it's less and less likely. That said no one really knows until Apple actually decides and announces it.

I'm near certain it will. I'm hoping the performance on iOS 9 stays the same and not go downhill like it seems to do for all iPhones that are on its last leg.

I believe a watered down version of iOS X will be on iPhone 5 too. After that, the iPhone 5 will be discontinued if they follow their pattern.

Thank you for your replies!

btw I don't think that it will slow down the device because I have a friend with an iPhone 4s and his iPhone has never been so fast and good as it is now, after updating to ios 8. And for iPhone 4s that is the third ios update. :)

I highly doubt iOS 8 is faster than 6 or 5 were on a 4S though.

From ios 5 or 6 no, but a lot faster than ios 7 :)

If thats the case then he was more then likely having software issues with iOS 7 that the install of iOS 8 fixed.

Doing a restore as new on my 4S I could never make iOS 8 as fast and fluid as iOS 7.

Comparatively speaking I've found every iPhone to run poorly on its last release of iOS. Even going up to the next device (4S to 5 in this case) is a night and day experience.

I'm sure iOS 9 will be its last update

You can't be sure about that.

iPhone 2G/3G: 2 new iOS versions
3GS / 4: 3 new iOS versions

If you're judging Apple as a company of patterns, then you could also argue that the number of iOS updates an iPhone receives has been growing historically.

Bottom line: no one really knows.

considering how well (great) the iPhone 5 runs on iOS 8, there is no reason why it wouldn't get iOS 9. Although id be waiting for youtube videos to show comparisons of 8 v 9. Just to be on the safe side.....

This is true, but the only thing that could happen so that the iPhone 5/5c doesn't get the update would be  make iOS 9 for 64-bit devices only. Personally I think they're one year away from that. Therefore I believe the 5/5c will receive iOS 9, but not iOS 10

It certainly will :) Especially with the Apple Watch supporting the iPhone 5, Apple won't drop support yet.

Also, the 5C and 5S came out on the same year, so they must support the 5C, which has the same specs as the 5.
