Woke up MPB from sleep, all apps closed unexpectedly

So I closed my MBP for a few hours and when I opened it and logged in I got an error on all the Apps I previously had open before it went to sleep. My battery life has also taken a hit. This is coming from a 2015 13 inch 2.9.
