The woman is rather stupid for doing it, the radio station is even dumber for coming up with the idea, and unfortunately it may end up looking bad for Nintendo at no fault of their own. No wonder there is a Darwin award...
Time for Lawyers I guess, how could a radio station be so stupid to ask someone to do this? The winner of the contest had nausea, felt horrible and had to lie down she said. What happens is your body & brain swell up from all the water and your brain if it starts to swell has nowhere to go. I would Sue em blind for having this contest. Negligence?

A lot of radio stations these days are resorting to promotions and crazy radio bits that include a high shock factor because they bring ratings. Call me old fashioned or conservative, but I find a lot of them to be rather crass, just plain stupid, and/or dangerous. It seems that the radio stations have taken their cue from reality TV and it's become radio voyeurism at its finest.

One of the reasons I liked x96 in Salt Lake was because they tended to avoid these antics (at least for their morning show) while still keeping their show entertaining.

Then I suppose Matthew Carrington deserved to die as well?

That contest held by the radio station is no different than playing hot potato with a live grenade: someone was bound to die.
If you are going to play hot potato with a live grenade then you deserve what's coming to you.

On a side note how much water is to much, they always say drink lots of water but what is the limit.

I think the key is not to drink lots of water in a short period of time. Like pretty much any kind of essential nutrient it's best to get it gradually throughout the day so it can be absorbed and utilized more effectively by the body. There are lots of things the body can't store up for use later so you have to be consistent in replenishing yourself so that it has what it needs when it needs it.

I normally drink 2 litres in one big sitting :D I knew it could be dangerous but I thought it took about 8 litres in one go. Ho hum.

Poor woman. Fantastic intentions, pointless death.

...one more reason that I'm glad to be a [diet] soda junkie. :D
Can't live without my Diet Mountain Dew wakeup in the morning. :)

I can't believe this. I've never heard of water being "bad for you", all you ever hear nowadays is "drink x y oz glasses of water every day" and then this crazy stuff happens. Just goes to show that none of these people (scientists, dieticians, food pyramid gurus, doctors) have any clue what people should or should not eat or drink.

Well the thing is, drinking water (especially the bottle kind) is not pure water and has many minerals, disbalance in electrolytes can have serious consequences, drinking too much Gatorade can have the same effect, including kidney diseases or death.

You can't be intoxicated with pure water.

I know drinking too many minerals can cause kidney failure and such...but I think even pure water kills you.

I know that's how a lot of people who take ecstasy die- they get so thirsty and drink too much water. I heard that they die because their brain cells absorb too much water and explode...

Ewww...
Umm... Excuse me, sir. You're leaking brains out of your ear.

I've just realised I've already drunk 1 litre of Volvic earlier today and I'm onto my 2nd. Really puts my mind into concentration mode.

I had a teacher in highschool (who was a runner) and had a friend of his get water poisoning during a race.

Drinking 2 ltrs isnt a problem. I do that everyday as I have to flush my kidneys. Its drinking it all in 1 go.

Its actually the opposite, people on ecstasty at raves or other dance events sweat a lot but don't feel thirsty. So they dont drink any water and die from dehydration related causes. They also can become overheated and their own body head literally cooks their brains.

Word?! That's sumthin'. I've heard of dying from water but never read any accounts of it. One time after playin' basketball in realy bad heat for a few hours, I got home and drank alot (not sure of the exact amount, atleast 1.5 liters) of water, I was afraid I was goin to dehydrate when I was at work. I was pissin' every 5-10 minutes for a good while; bad move.

I remember some story a while back where folks were drinking water to get drunk....it was such a large amount needed though...and some of them died. Everything in the world can be too much...moderation is the key for all things.

Another odd one is Bananas. It is possible to die from eating too many bananas (Potassium)
