Women vs men in music

Do women dominate in R&B? My perception of it seems to be women groups and over production, I may be wrong, don't have enough interest in the genre to be sure..
 
Two other women I totally forgot to mention in terms of originality - doing their own thing - not emulating men:

PJ Harvey
