I had an HTC One back in 2013. The stereo speakers in landscape mode were pretty good. I don't think the fact that the bottom iPhone speaker is bottom-firing is going to make that much of a difference. We're not talking about home speakers here.

Totally agree. On a device this small with such tiny speakers the fire direction of the speakers shouldn't make any difference more than a foot or so away from the phone.

You guys are lucky to be getting stereo sound. That's the one real beef I have with the 6s. The speaker sounds subpar, even compared to my iPhone 5. But it's something I can overlook because otherwise it's a fantastic device.

IDK. Quality and volume of speaker sound is important to me. These aren't just phones anymore. They are so much more. I have a 7 on order and hope the quality and volume are improved over the 6. I use the speaker(s) all the time.

Did you too find the 6 speakers to be a bit subpar versus the 5 variants?

I wish they had included Beats audio profile to this iPhone. HTC M7 had it and it sounded pretty good from both speakers and headphones. Then again, it would of been a Beats killer since they own Beats.

so why not add a second one to the bottom if we "know" the small one i the earpiece can produce a loud clear sound?

There is not a second speaker on the bottom because they used that new space for other things. One being the display controller. It used to be up at the top, but wouldn't fit with the new, larger camera sensor/module. So it was moved to the bottom. Second thing being the much larger Taptic Engine. Third thing being the larger battery.

You can read right all about it directly from one of the head hardware guys at Apple here. https://www.buzzfeed.com/johnpaczko...headphone-jack?utm_term=.kcXVAwVg2#.bt63793XD

It's mostly to explain in more detail of the headphone jack removal, but it also gives insite to why there isn't a second speaker in the bottom.
