I just got a new macbook a week ago. Everything was peachy until I went to write "New zealand" & realized the capital z did not work but in capslock.

I found one thread from so long ago about a guy who had this EXACT same problem but there was no outcome posted.

of course I've been on the phone with apple & no amount of troubleshooting got the z going.

It also makes that "goink" noise when I try to press it.

ANYONE heard of this particular defect or what causes it?

    Just curious.

Does it work if you use the right Shift instead of the left one?

    Apparently, it's a common problem. I haven't found a solution anywhere.

I'm willing to bet shift-z is bound to something.

just checked my shift -z works as it should I would agree that it is a possible key mapping issue
