Wonky DVD drive

The DVD drive in my macbook pro has decided that it no longer wants to read DVDs or CDs. However, it will still will burn CDs and DVDs. If a newly burnt CD is ejected and reinserted the computer will tell me it's blank. CDs and DVDs that are burnt work fine in other computers, CD/DVD players.

I've already tried reinstalling 10.6, but it wasn't a reformat and install.

Is this more likely a software issue or a hardware issue?

mines wont burn a dvd at all...what should i do?

Verify with better quality discs, then replace the drive.
