As usual, if this is in the wrong place, please move it to the appropriate one.

MacBookPro 2012, 15.4", i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, beta Mojave 10.14.4

External monitor is Dell S2309W.

My external screen started to do this a few minutes ago. I rebooted, no change. I disconnected and it continued. I switched from DVI to VGA and it continued to look like this. Completely disconnected, and it still does this. It's not the MBP, then, but I have no idea what causes this. I've cycled on and off several times, and unplugged the monitor.

You can see the video showing the effect on my reddit.com post at https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/b0alj3/wonky_dell_monitor/

How old is the display?
Sometimes they just "go bad on you".
And then... the only choices are... get it repaired... or start shopping for something new...

Not sure how old, since it was given to me by someone who was moving along with the desktop PC it came with. It seems to be a 2009 model, but was very, very lightly used. It looks great so I would prefer to figure out the problem, but hardly worth spending money to repair. I have used it for no more than 6 months.

Hmmm... it's 10 years old... it was given to you...
Time to look for something new.
