Won't turn on

Let my battery run out and now won't turn on. Keyboard lights up but screen is black and computer won't respond.

If you can disconnect the battery, do so and connect the charger. Don't touch the keyboard. Hopefully, the MacBook will power up on its own.

If you hold down the option key as soon as you turn the MacBook on does the boot menu come up?
