Won't update or restore from 3rd party cable

Trying to restore from a 11.0.3 backup on a 11.0.1 phone so first I'm upgraded both phones to 11.1

now the X won't update or restore with my 3rd party cable.

FYI Now though it appears to be working from an Apple branded cable.

If it's any consolation, I saw a thread earlier today where poster could not get phone to sync with the Apple cable until they "unwrapped it". Guessing they meant uncoiling it.

Sounds like the X might be susceptible to noise. Which poor shielding, like in the flimsy Apple cables, might be causing.
