It will be great to use Apple Wallet's NFC for Woolworths' Reward. I like many Australians already store all my cards digitally in a major bank's App and in the Stocard App. When it comes to contactless payments and digital reward cards, it appears that Australians are early adopters. I am hoping Amazon Fresh brings Apple Pay and an Apple Wallet rewards programme here.

We bought the watch for her as a fall alert device to call for help if she needed it
Complete aside but I did that for my mother too. I just wish given the heart rate monitoring and other sensors it could trigger an automatic alert if it perceived a risk.

I added it this morning and used it a few hours later. At checkout I held my phone near the eftpos machine and it came up automatically, prompting me to authenticate with Touch ID. The cashier was initially shocked as she hadn’t heard of it and didn’t know how I’d managed to scan my card without her help (previously you needed to scan the barcode on the till). I’m impressed!

I didn't know woolworths was still around.
The UK and AU Woolworths were always better than the US Woolworths. The US was just a large 5 and dime where the UK sold electronics, computers and software.

Woolworths in Australia has no affiliation with companies of the same name in other countries... so yes, it’s still around.

TIL Woolworths still exists. Even if it is in a penal colony.
Sorry Mate.. not TL Woolworths... Woolworths Limited, no affiliation with companies of the same name in other countries. They are a chain of Supermarkets.

Agreed, this for me sets a benchmark for these sorts of reward schemes. Woolworths should be proud.

The My John Lewis card can be added to Wallet and scanned at the till from the home screen - it also uses iBeacon so you can get to it quickly when in the shop. Is this not the same thing?

If you add your favourite stores in the Tesco Clubcard app you can have it appear on your lock screen-but with as is the case with Walgreen's and Woolworths you can use TouchID to authenticate then use your default card to pay:
