iOS4: Jailbroken within 24hrs :D

Gizmodo said:
A Gold Master release of iOS 4 (née iPhone OS) was seeded to developers yesterday. And the next iPhone's software has been surprisingly accommodating to jailbreakers' attempts to crack it wide open.

The current technique was finagled from existing jailbreak software (Pwnagetool, specifically) by msft.guy. On top of this prerelease hack, the iPhone Dev Team is claiming to have an unlock of their own nearly prepped for iOS 4 final, to be released within a month (presumably to coincide with the release of iPhone 4). In other words, come iOS 4's official release, you should be able to jailbreak your handset—or at least your iPhone 3GS. (Nobody's been able to test the exploit on an iPhone 4.

Instructions for trying the current jailbreak, for 3GS only, are available here, but it's probably a bad choice: The final release of the software is set for the end of this month, at which point the jailbreaking process will likely be streamlined (and anointed by the Dev Team), and after which your jailbreak will last longer than a few weeks.

I'll wait for the DevTeam. I ain't risking it with this.

obviously, but the fact that its been done already means it shouldnt be long at all after the release to the general public on the 21st that we will see the DevTeam release ;)

This may be a newbie question here, but what's the likelihood of someone figuring out how to jailbreak and/or unlock the new iPhone 4 for use overseas. The jailbreaking is necessary to unlock right? I don't necessarily need the crazy custom programs that people create but if it's necessary to unlock the phone then of course I'll do it.

But is it pretty much assumed that someone will determine how to unlock the phone sometime soon after it releases? I mean, all of the other iPhones have been unlocked right?

Lame. I was hoping that I could use this hack to update with no developer account. Is there any way I can do that? If I get the the firmware even?

Very likely, give it a few weeks and you should have an unlocked iPhone.

So can I update 3.1.3 to this without a developer account?

If you're downloading if from a torrent site or something then there wouldn't be anything stopping it from working but from Apples stance you have to be a developer.

Though I'm not a developer nor have I installed iOS4 so don't quote me on that one.

iOS4 hasnt been released to the general public. This is just the Golden Master (GM), aka final release copy, which was sent to dev's.

So no, must wait until the 21st.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong. People that aren't on dev accounts updated to 4.0 last night.

Jailbreaking is a hack to the software...which requires you to have the software beforehand, which is only given to dev's.

Unless they got it from someone with a developers account, through torrenting or however, the general public does not have iOS4. It will be released on the 21st. It was stated in the keynote.

Hmm, mixed feelings. Some people say it will work and some don't. I'm downloading 9.2 and the GM candidate as we speak. Has anyone tried to install it without a dev account OR their udid registered to a developers beta list?

It works without needing to be registered on a developer's account. This has been established in several other threads. I personally haven't updated to iOS4, though.

Any updating you do with unreleased software, though, is of course at your own risk.

Sorry, I didnt mean to mislead you. Its been proven that it does indeed work without registering your UDID as long as you have iTunes 9.2 but the only people who are supposed to get it are the people with dev accounts.

I was just saying it hasnt been released to the general public...aka hit "update" in iTunes will not download iOS4 yet....not until the 21st ;)

what's the chance however that jailbreak apps such as miwi or iblacklist would even be compatible with this OS anyways?

That's my question. All I really care about anymore (jb-wise, that is) is myWi. I wonder if it works with 4.0 ... ?
