Word and Excel galleries open automatically upon system restart

    Hello, I am running Mac OS X 10.9.5. Whenever I restart the Mac, Word document gallery and Excel book gallery are opened automatically. When I close the Word document gallery, a blank Word document is opened. Similarly, whenever I close the Excel book gallery, a blank Excel sheet is opened. Could you please let me know what is going on? How do I fix this issue?
