I'm considering to upgrade from my mini 2 to the 2019 Air. I can use MS word/Excel for free in the mini 2. Is Office apps still free to use in the Air? Or do I need a 365 subscription to use them? Anybody here using Office apps as well?

They are not free to use on the Air as the screen size cut off is 10.1” I believe, however an Air user on here found that existing documents can be edited and re-saved using Dropbox on the Air without a subscription. It’s worth creating some blank documents on your Mini 2 for this purpose.
I was intending to get the iPad mini 5! And I waited so long too! Then iPadOS was announced and with all the new multiple window/multitasking stuff added, together with the added Apple Pencil support of the new iPads, I feel like I could really make use of the larger display. Still going back and forth though. The portability of the mini is amazing.

Up until this moment, it is still free to use MS office in the mini, however, come iPad OS, the rules might change, since it is another operative system. It is unlikely, but not impossible.
