The problem is the equations are all entirely integrated with a ton of text and I have to be able to change them often and easily, and its a pain to go back and forth between programs.

What programs are you going back and forth between?

And the arrow key issue isn't about inserting them, its about aiming them. Publishing view solved that...

Ok, so why doesn't copy/paste work? Seems like a copied arrow should be pointing in the same direction and be the same size as the original.

Thanks for being on this forum Nadyne. However, I beg to differ. You just need to face the fact that you didn't start right from the beginning developing a windowing model bowing to the OS's model. You can't blame the OS very much, IMHO, for things which other applications can do without breaking a sweat and Office fails. ..not exactly this topic but showing the same inclination of drawing battle lines is the exclusion of the "Dictionary" service from Office apps. My biggest gripe apart from stability issues and heartbreaking feature dropping which don't make sense.

Too harsh. She did not blame the OS, she blamed both code. Why? Because the fact is- as she said- the code is substantially different. There's always more to it than even you know. Thanks for being here Nadyne.

Maybe but it still owes some truth. Discussions hopefully bring two opposites together. Office was an ambitious project and it didn't help it is in Carbon while trying to include some not-so-Mac behaviours. She referred me about the problems they were facing, check this forum. It is actually an interesting read.

Word, OpenOffice, other stuff it's not the way to go if you're writing a scientific text, LaTeX is the way to go.

You'll spend some time writing your own template (lots of time!), but then using it will be very quick and easy, and your papers will look better then ever.

This thread is really funny. It is nice to see the ppl on this forum speak politely to someone who works for Microsoft who actually takes the time to answer their questions. Especially since the Office suite is the one domain where Microsoft are inarguably years ahead of the competition.

Personally tho, I've always thought the main problem with the app is that they went for the floating windows look to make it more mac-like. My gf is constantly asking me how to do bring back the formatting palette etc. where it should really all just be on the one window. I've never used iWork, but I would use Word on windows over Open office or Office 2004 any day.
