Cmd+Shift+S doesn't work very well actually, I don't know why maybe my timing's off?

How about ctrl-F2 then F and enter or arrow down then S?

Ok, so it's a bit more keys than on Windows, but it's still the Windows-way... 😉

Cmd+Shift+S doesn't work very well actually, I don't know why maybe my timing's off?
But anyway I know there are some everyday shortcuts that work fine like copy/cut/paste but what if I don't want to remember them all? The way XP does it I only need to remember to press Alt and follow the underscored prompts. I'm sure there will be some people who remember every keyboard shortcut I'll ever need but I want to use the computer to perform a task not for the love of using the computer.

I don't want to hunt and peck for underlined text that doesn't always work ... a lot of time it take two hands and removes my focus from my mouse (tablet). Though if your typing anyways i can see the benefit (i don't like to use words). I find it much easier to remember a handful of keystrokes that are almost universal and cross platform (Cmd = Ctrl). Though ... im sure you've been waiting for this ... yes, it would be nice to have full keyboard access (OS X) on by default (and mapped) so the same ATL functions would be available cross platform.

I changed ctrl-F2 to Option-` (which shares a key with the tilde between tab and escape in the top left of the US keyboard) because it seems a little bit more manageable. I've never found the function keys that easy to reach on my iBook, even though I have long fingers. 😱

Now that's a little better. I wasn't aware of that, thanks.
I still find the Ctrl+F2 combo almost as awkward as reaching for the mouse though.

One possible solution 🙂)):

Well that would make it (marginally) easier to reach... 😉

I've never bothered with that kind of menu navigating myself. If a feature/menu item I use regularly doesn't have a ready made shortcut, I just make one, like Send Link... in Firefox 🙂)):

I've never known it not to work. ?
I'm not 'a creative' so I'm far more likely to have my hands at the keyboard than at the mouse while working. Horses for courses I guess it just always struck me that the underscore system helped without getting in the way for people like you who don't use it and Apple supposedly stand for ease of use.

OK so a few post back I said that I tried the suggested key combo Cmd+Shift+S for "Save As.." and it hadn't worked. It looks like I hit Shift+Cmd+S which is "Start Profiling with Sample" (isn't it just a bit daft to have two key combos so similar?)anyone know what that is?
And is it just a coincidence that since the minute I did that Mail can't pick up my POP3 account just keeps asking for the password and then getting refused which has never happened before.😕

Personally, I think it's easier to just disable it in Font Book 😛

What is "Comic Sans MS" supposed to mean anyway? Comic without Microsoft?

I think profiling with sampling is sort of a modern-day TRON...IIRC, it dumps the information into the console log. But I think it usually hogs some resources to do it.

And I think the general pattern is that, in apps where documents are editable, there is a "save" and a "save as." In apps like Safari, where you typically don't get the files off your own drive to begin with, there's only one option (save as). If there are two options, they're Cmd-S and Cmd-Shift-S, respectively. If there's just one, it's Cmd-S.

But the usage of Cmd-Shift-S for something else is a little annoying. 🙁 I accidentally hit it too! 😀

While overall I prefer the experience of using MacOS X, I do miss the Common User Access (CUA) user-interface standard, which specifies the way menus work under Windows (and which Windows got from OS/2, as I recall). I have always wondered why Apple didn't adopt CUA as yet another way to access its menus, since it's a standard and lots of people are used to it. Is it something IBM or Microsoft have rights over, and Apple would have to pay to license it? Or was it just Not Invented Here?

If your expectation of OS X is that it perform and respond to everything in exactly the same way that Windows does, then clearly the solution is to buy a windows computer and put an apple sticker over the windows sticker on the palmrest. Hope that works out well for you. 😉[/QUOTE]

I just switched from a Dell to the Mac, but thanks for the advice. 😉 It seems odd that MS would not use the same shortcuts in the Mac version of Office. All I need is a complete list of the default Office for Mac keyboard shortcuts.
