Wait- i know you can view doc and pdf files on safari. But you are telling me that you can view ppt files and spreadsheet files on safari as well?
How about files made in Pages or Keynote? Has anyone tried this on the iPhone?

You can edit and save Word and Excel files and view ppt and pdf files and sync them with your iPhone using Documents to Go app in the iTunes store for 10 dollars

I've been using that for quite a time, and it's worth it
One other option is to run one of the VNC or Remote Desktop apps (about a dozen different ones in the App store) on your iPhone, and remote view your PC/Mac to see and edit the files.
I use NetPortal to view office docs. You can't edit them, but you can get to file shares on servers over VPN and WiFi (i.e while out of the office).
