I have exchange on my phone and consequently each time my watch is off my wrist it locks.

When the watch is on charge you can't see how full the charge is because the watch is locked!!! You have to put the watch on your wrist and unlock your phone just to see the watch battery %. Stupid

I am also unable to turn passcode off on the watch. Nor can I disable wrist detection.

Thanks for making up my mind for me Apple.
If your workplace Exchange forces a password, that's not Apple's problem. Since there's potentially work-related email on your watch, I suspect they will enforce the code policy. My workplace does per HIPAA regulations. But I never have to punch the code in but once each morning.

The watch locks by design when it comes off your wrist. The code need only be entered when you put it back on (or whip out your phone and unlock the watch by unlocking your phone with Touch ID).

The 1.01 watch OS shows the charge level when charging.

I have 1.01 installed and I can assure you it does not show the charging level.

When you first place the watch on the charger it says "charging 53%" but that's it.

Go back to it and do what you like, the phone just tells you that it's locked. No % charging at all.

So pick it up and put it right back down on the charger.

Watch isn't perfect, but with all due respect, you seem bent out of shape from fairly minor issues.

Entering the unlock code -- or simply unlocking your phone -- hardly seems like a major issue unless you're taking your watch off a dozen times per day. And if your workplace is enforcing it through an overly-aggressive Exchange policy, then Apple can't be blamed for your IT department's policy choices.

I don't know why you need 8 characters, you must have set that.

But yes, Exchange forces a lock on your phone and watch. With touch ID, you might not have noticed on the phone. Also, you might not have noticed that if you're on Exchange you can't use the "wait 4 hours" before locking your phone either.

On the watch, I just set it to 1111 for easy entry. Honestly I am not worried about someone stealing my watch, guessing the code, AND being in range of my phone. For me, the watch and phone password can be different.

I've discovered that if you have work email on your iPhone, through an Exchange account that requires heightened passcode protection (i.e. 8 digits which have to be entered every time), this feature will carry over to the Watch.

This means the passcode option on the Watch is overridden, and I have to put in my 8 digit passcode every time I want to use the Watch.

This is obviously a massive pain considered how small the keypad on the Watch is and the fact that it's an 8 digit passcode!

I'm not aware of any any around this, unless an employer allows you to have different security settings (unlikely they would).

Anyone have any thoughts?

I also can't sync my music (which needs to charge + be unlocked it seems) for this exact reason. Unimpressed this isn't sorted in the second Apple Watch and will be sending it back.

I Just figured this out! My apple watch would not unlock and needed a alphanumeric passcode that was not possible on apple watch.

1st go into Settings, General, scroll down to 'Device Management' then select management profile, then restrictions...there you will see Passcode. WARNING you will have to delete the Device Management (meaning the work app can no longer can enforce restrictions) and Voila no more locked apple watch.

I hope this works for you guys. Let me know if it does or if you find alternative solutions.
