I’m starting a new job and the company will issue me a work phone which will be iPhone. I also use iPhone as my personal phone and since I bought my just few months ago I asked them can I just use my phone for now. The answer was no and the reason they stated was that it’s got something to do with security and that’s why employees can’t use their personal phones for work. But apparently I can use my own Apple ID on it. So my question is do you guys know what are they able to do with work phones vs personal phones even that employees can use their own Apple ID? I thought if you use your own Apple ID no one can “touch” the phone regardless if it’s company or personal phone. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? Because now I’m also hesitant to use the company phone with my own Apple ID although it would be the best option to have just one phone. They will pay for subscription as well.

DO NOT USE YOUR PERSONAL APPLE ID ON YOUR WORK PHONE

Keep the two devices and accounts completely separate. Create a new Apple account with your work email address.

We use iPhones at work with Microsoft device management… (previously it was the blackberry work suit, but it worked the same way)

Oh, and these rights are regardless of what Apple ID we would use…

If you log in both will Apple combine both phone numbers on the same iMessage account? Personally if I'm going to use a personal account for some reason related to work, I make a new one unrelated to any accounts I already use.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear that. I was really looking forward to use the company phone as my main device with my personal Apple ID because a) I could use a newer phone and b) I wouldn't have to pay phone bill anymore but now I'm hesitant.

So I have my own personal iPhone and my own subscription that I pay for myself. The company offers to options:

Option 1: I can transfer my number to them and they will pay for the subscription (I will have the number back if I quit). So naturally I will use that on my work phone and have one device and subscription that are fully paid by employer. But then I have to use my own Apple ID on that phone because it would be inconvenient to use new Apple ID. I wouldn't have access to my personal stuff like photos and contacts.

Option 2: They provide me with new work phone number and I use that with my work phone. I create new Apple ID just for that work phone. I keep using my personal phone + personal number + personal Apple ID just like I have used before.

May I ask do you use your own personal Apple ID on your work phone? If so, have you had any issues?
I did in the past with no issues… From the firm‘s perspective (and also the iPhone‘s perspective) it does not make any difference, which e-mail address ist linked to the active Apple ID…

I have to add: Last time I used this setup was with the iPhone X, so no dual sim…

This is the best advice and what I do. You never know what your employer can sniff out on your phone, and if you ever leave it makes the process cleaner. I always keep my personal phone separate. On the weekends, it's easier to separate work from personal life too.
