so I've seen so many good reviews about the app workflow, but can't see the usefulness that everyone claims. Whats your take on it? What do you use most? How does it differ from ifttt?

Using Workflow you can write programs...sort of, combining multiple actions and apps. IFTTT is single step actions, if -> then...

I have a workflow which lets me download YouTube videos and one to crop photos and bring up the share sheet. Sadly, I never quite got the hang of stitching together workflows, so I am limited to what I can find and download online.

You can visit Macstories. The main writer is quite the expert on using the workflow app to automate many of his tasks and you might find something useful.

IFTTT is largely automation from an external (internet) trigger. Workflows are explicitly triggered by the user.

YouTube download is a great use. I have workflows for creating PDF files from web pages, send a quick message to my wife that I'm on my way home from work, and one to message her the last picture I took.

I have one that will download a selected file from Dropbox and directly attach it to an email instead of copying the link like does by default.

They also just updated the app to allow for easier searching for new workflows.
