I need to work on iMovie projects from that external portable drive. Would you have any recommendations ?

thanks

That depends on the kind of footage, but Firewire 400/800 should be the best port in those, as USB is kind of too CPU intensive and does lag.

Any FireWire 400/800 drive should do, also it helps if it is a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive. That will make copying and reading data much smoother. If its HD material 7200 rpm will be a big help. If its standard def either should be fine.

HD footage that's 45 minutes in length with clips that range from 2 seconds to 5 continuous minutes.

I looked at this guide before my post and looked at it now just in case I didn't miss anything ... It's a great guide, yet my question wasn't answered, sorry.

Perhaps I should just buy the drive and try it, I just don't want it to break within a year and the warranty won't cover it because of how I worked directly from it.
